Atocha Shipwreck Coins – as the story goes…The Treasure Galleon Atocha tragically ended her voyage on a reef off the Florida Keys on September 6, 1622 – taking with her 264 souls.  Over 47 troy tons of treasure was scattered over 50 miles of ocean floor.  Mel Fisher, well-known treasure hunter, obsessed with the Atocha treasure, searched for over 20 years until he found it…These coins were created from the original silver bars recovered from the Atocha wreckage; recast from the original coin molds.  Truly an awesome piece of history!
